Twitter Tips for Your Business

Twitter Tips for Your Business

In relation to our previous post about your business and Facebook posts, we want to offer some business tips for Twitter. Twitter and Facebook, though similar in that you can grow a following are very different in terms of interaction, post format, and forms of interaction.
Here are some tips to help your business along using Twitter:

  1. Obviously, make a profile
This is pretty self-explanatory, however, it is almost impossible to engage with potential followers if you are not part of the site. Make sure you fill out the whole profile. Why? Because it shows transparency and dedication which both build trust among potential followers.
  2. Look, Learn, Listen
Hold off on posting frequently until you have had a chance to research your competition and how they make your industry work for them. Make note of things that work and those that do not and use that information to form your strategy.
  3. Engage
Part of building a following is engaging with your followers. Try to actively participate with them by re-tweeting. Help existing customers solve problems and build a positive image of your company. Share news about your company and your industry. Keep your company news to a lower portion of your posts and try to post about industry relevant things that your followers enjoy participating in. For example: if you are clothing boutique that specializes in swimwear, take photos of your swimwear at the beach and comment on how it was such a beautiful day.
  4. Be unique
As with all social media outlets, you need to set yourself apart from both your competitors as well as just the average business looking to grow a following. You need to be something special. Hold contests, take polls, make an offer solely for those who follow you on Twitter. Reward your followers for their participation and engagement.
  5. Don’t be afraid to show it
If Twitter was unpopular or distasteful, it would not be used by the most powerful politicians, celebrities and companies in the world. As such, you should not be afraid to show off your Twitter handle on your site. Make it known that you have one. Someone visiting your site, not ready to commit to a purchase, may see your Twitter handle and follow to ask questions before buying. It can’t hurt you, so do it.
The most important thing about Twitter and any other social media outlet is your following. They are the ones that buy your products and services and spread your brand like wildfire. Appreciate them, do not scorn them. Be tasteful, be kind and be appreciative. You are in control of your future, but they will play a big part of your success.
